This site has been so helpful in providing me with the information I need to improve myself that I decided to take it further and join in on the forum level. To start, I am 35 years old and decided that it was time to change my life. After 20 years of smoking, partying and generally abusing myself I came to the realization that I was an idiot. The doctor told me that I was pre-diabetic and one night my wife rolled over as we were going to sleep and asked if I would quit smoking because "she wanted to keep me around for a while".
At that time I was 6'3, 250lbs and couldn't climb a flight of stairs without calling 911. I knew that I couldn't make all of the changes at once so I came up with a "phased" approach. I quit smoking cold turkey and never looked back. Two weeks later I started a couch 2 5k program and finished it a week ago. About 3 weeks ago I started using myfitnesspal to track my calories. At first it was difficult and I thought that I would never be able to eat anything delicious again but I was wrong. I still eat a lot of the same things but just not A LOT of the same old things if you know what I mean. I now run 3-5 times a week anywhere from 2-4 miles. I want to get to 220lbs before I move to the next phase which is strength training and possibly even a personal trainer. I would probably be content holding at 220 but my obsessive nature is going to force me to go all out and see just what I can do with my body.
If you have read this far I would like to say thanks for all of the contributions everyone has made. I would love to have friends on here and would love it even more if there are any locals that exercise together. I'm trying to pay my new found good habits forward to others that want to get started and know that a good support system is a great thing to have.
