The Lancet Publication

This recent publication in the Lancet supports what I have known since working for Sandoz Nutrition starting in 1983. VLCD's combined with behavioral intervention is a sound method. Very low calorie plans with high protein do indeed curb appetite and the faster weight loss is much more motivating than slow weight loss. Look at the difference in the number of subjects that met the weight loss goal between the groups!

Dr. Freedhoff's take makes sense: regardless of how one loses weight, if the loser thinks of the "diet" as a temporary solution rather than a lifestyle change, then s/he is likely to gain the weight back.0
