Notifications of "Likes" and "Comments"

Is there anyway I can get a notification for likes and comments? I know there are the icons at the top of the page for messages and friend requests but it would be easier to see likes and comments if I didn't have to scroll though all of the older posts and check.
Maybe an obvious answer to this but I'm new...

    Its in your settings under email. Be careful what you wish for I unchecked all the boxes as it cna inundate your email account.
