How much calories should I eat?

My goal is to loose 70 pounds, I'm 5'5 and the last time I weighed myself I was 185.
MFP says to eat 1,280 calories which some people call unsafe and will probably result in yoyo dieting wouldn't it?

Thank you!

I'm 5'4 & 183. I was 191 & my goal was to lose 70 pounds, so we're in the same boat. Check your tdee. If you want me to do it then tell me your activity level. Sedentary or lightly active are the most common ones.

i've been doing 1200 net calories per day at 5' 3 1/2", and while at first i felt weak and dizzy (i have type 2 diabetes), i adjusted to it although now i wish i had cut down calories more gradually. my son is concerned that it's an unhealthily low amount of calories, but i'm only losing a pound a week, am not losing muscle (but i work out with weights and eat lots of protein), mostly feel good and energetic, and i do eat back about half my exercise calories when i work out, including long or fast walks.

i lost about 45 or 50 pounds just doing food substitutions but eating the same amount of food, then lost a little from working out and in mid-may started eating 1200 net calories per day and have lost almost 32 pounds since then.

People say UNDER 1200 is unsafe. If you set your goal aggressively, you will get a lower allowance, so you can adjust it to 1.5 per week and get more. Additionally, you will be earning exercise calories, so if you are assigned 1280, then gain 500 through exercise (eating half), you would have 1530 for that day.

I originally was 182lbs 5'5 and I just pretty much cut straight back to 1200 calories and it's kind of the only way I lose weight. I did try exercise more and eat some back but it just made me more hungry and my cravings went crazy lol. Low calorie or low carb are the only things that I personally do well with because I'm quite inactive (Desk Job & a Gamer in my spare time) I dont think you'll yoyo as long as you learn to choose healthier options like wholegrains over white if you ever decided to eat "normal" or maintain.
