You don't know. You just have to keep making that same decision every single day. Every hour, if needed. Only your behaviour can predict the future.0

Do you know why other diets failed? I have had trouble losing in the past. I think I tried to eat too few calories and would get hungry and stop. I am trying to lose at a slower rate but a calorie goal that us manageable for me this time. But, I have those same doubts. What if it doesn't work again? Or worse, what if i lose and then gain it back? All we can do is try. There are a lot of people here that can help. I think I will because it is important enough for me now,0

decide that you can learn to live a different way. You have to want it and you have to do the work. Log your calories, work on your emotions if if you are stress eater. You can do this, lifestylechange.0

"If you want something you've never had, you've got to do something you've never done."
It didn't work for you before because you were doing it wrong. If you stick to a simple and reasonable calorie deficit, (i.e, NOT 1200 cals) ensuring that you are eating less than you are expending by weighing and logging your food consistently, you will lose weight. Scientifically and mathematically it HAS to work. If it doesn't, you are a freak of nature, or have severe thyroid problems and either way you should get to a doctor immediately.0 -
Put in some mental work beforehand. Really think about it. What are the pros and cons of each choice? Imagine the "what ifs" with each choice. Make an informed, deliberate decision. Then really think about how you are going to accomplish it. What eating plan will you follow (low-carb, low-fat, IIFYM, etc)? What exercise will you do? What time frame will you give yourself (be gentle and realistic)? What has worked in the past? What hasn't worked? Get as specific as you can. Anticipate the hurdles you will come across (hunger, special events, traumatic events, stress, boredom, frustration, etc) including the reasons you have given up in the past. What will you do in that situation? What will you tell yourself in those moments when you just want to bag it all? Or when progress isn't happening like you think it should?
It's a lot of mental work… but it can help to have a game plan in mind from the beginning, so when surprises (or hunger) comes your way, you know what to do instead of just reacting instinctively (meaning the way you always have in the past).
Then keep making that decision every day. Every hour or even every minute if you have to. Remind yourself of your plans. When you make that decision often enough for long enough… it becomes the way you think. It becomes you… your lifestyle.
During a recent (non weight-loss related) lifestyle change/overhaul… I had several serious setbacks. At one point, I even felt like I was worse off than I was when I started and I wondered why I was even bothering with it when it obviously wasn't doing me any good. In fact… my greatest supporter/friend even asked me that… "then why are you still doing this?" And I really had to think about it. My reply was "if this is where I am when I'm actually trying… imagine how bad off I'd be right now if I wasn't!"
That thought often crosses my mind during this (the weight loss) overhaul. And when I get frustrated or worry that I'm not making much progress in a particular area… or when I have my bad days when bad habits sneak back in… I remind myself of my own words. And I keep going.0 -
Thanks a lot, guys.0
