Looking for a new wearable

Howdy,
I broke my fitbit, or should I say my washing machine broke my fitbit, and I'm looking to replace it with something a little different. I liked that I could wear my fitbit all day and keep up with steps and stairs to show how active I had been but I would be very active at the gym with almost no way to measure how active I had been. I assume the solution to this problem is a heart rate monitor but from what I have looked at heart rate monitors are meant to be worn for a brief time not all day.
Does anyone have a suggestion of a monitor that could used all day? Is there such a thing? What do you like best?
