What happens when you have the mental strength to attain physical strength

A few years ago I realized that I was not happy with what I looked like. For that matter, I was not happy with who I was as a person. I decided that to change for the better, it would have to start with my attitude. When you look at things as something that you know you can overcome, you tend to look at the whole world differently. However, in the beginning I was surprised. It was easy to go to a gym and workout every couple days. What was difficult was having the dedication to actually push myself, and to have the discipline to watch what into my body. I struggled with these things for about a year, and then came to a conclusion: I was not mentally strong enough to become physically strong. I resolved to become as strong as I could mentally, to become dedicated and disciplined. This picture shows the transformation I went through. I have to say I really think I am a better person for going through this struggle. I don't really know why I feel like I want to post this, though. In part I think it is because I really am proud of who I have become, and want to show everyone what I was able to attain. However, I also want to be a role model. I want to be someone that people look up to. I want people to look at me and say, "I want to have the discipline that guy has". So here it is, my message to you all. If I could do it I promise you that you can!! :)v18wwrj7mxcx.png

    Fantastic!

The mental aspect is absolutely key. From the looks of it, you've mastered it. Do you have any advice on how to form that mental fortitude?

    Great job. Thanks for sharing!

I really needed to read this. It's the mental that I'm having the most trouble with. I keep starting and restarting and restarting. I want to become dedicated and disciplined but don't know how to stay the course. Please share how you made the decision to stick to your dedication. Thx.

  • Hey guys, it means a ton that you are asking advice from me! I guess the best thing is to know exactly what you want from yourself. Sit down and really think about where you want to be a year from right now, not only physically but as a whole person. If you know you want to be a more disciplined, and also in better shape person, then make a plan of how to get there. What helped for me was to keep a checklist of things every day of things I needed to get done, and a list of things that I was not allowed to do (for example, I needed to be at the gym and get these certain lifts done, and I was not allowed to eat any candy, desserts, or soda). Also, when going to workout, leave your phone in your bag or at home or your locker or whatever. When you are going to a gym, you're going for yourself. That is your "you" time, and you shouldn't let other people interrupt that. And remember to keep your head held high and be proud of the hard work that you put in every day! Having a positive attitude about what you are doing is key!! :)
