Minimal Exercise ability, advice appreciated!

Hey everyone,

I'm not so new to the MFP scene, but "new" to using it again this go around. I had previously lost almost 50lbs and then have put some of it back on. I am 5'5, currently 146 lbs, down from 157 when I first started about 4-5 weeks ago. My short term goal is to reach 135 by December, and eventually reaching 125. I am recovering from abdominal/pelvic surgery so am unable to work out other than walking and some light yoga. Mostly I am losing the weight by diet alone. Any suggestions on how to keep my metabolism active without exercise? Any advice from people who possibly calorie cycle?

if you eat less calories than you burn you will lose weight

    your metabolism is fine
  • I was told by a personal trainer do strength training that makes your metabolism burn faster then do any cardio. Hope this helps

Your doctor should be able to recommend some exercises.

A stopped metabolism = a dead person so given that you're not dead your metabolism is doing just fine.

Weight loss is strictly about diet. Eat less than you put out, and you'll lose weight. (unning, eyes blinking, regulating your body temp, etc - your BMR. It's not solely dependent on how much you can burn during exercise. This is why exercise is not a REQUIREMENT for weight loss.

well long term strength training with adequate diet helps to build lean muscle which would marginally change your metabolic rate but not so you would notice - it is so extremely insignifant that .... well, meh

when you're fully recovered from your surgery and with doctor's approval you should be able to start to build your fitness again

I wish you a speedy recovery

    Eat less. Walk. Relax.
