Losing the baby weight

I had a baby 3 weeks ago. I figured I would start tracking what I'm eating and stuff. The truth is that when I'm not pregnant I have a tendency to under eat or eat only sweets. I do have weight to lose of course. But I want to lose it at a reasonable rate not at an insane fast pace. I'm 20 pounds down from right before I delivered. (Was 171 pounds and now I'm 151) I started my pregnancy at 123 pounds, but I don't want to get quite that thin. (I was nursing my first child and between me forgetting my meals and him sucking the daylights out of me I was thinner than normal for me) I would like to be about 130 pounds I think. But not lower than 125.

So I guess this might seem a weird post because I want to and do need to lose weight. But I want to be careful about it. I am nursing my new little baby and I figure that will take care of a lot. I guess maybe I just need to focus mostly on nutrition and maybe breaking some bad habbits I developed while gestating.

I feel confident in my ability to lose the weight. But not so much in my ability to do it in the most healthy manner. In a few weeks I will start an exercise routine of some sort. But for now hopefully this will help keep me eating healthy.

Since you are nursing you could start at maintenance and watch your milk supply carefully. While nursing can burn around 500 calories a day it can be hard to lose weight with out it affecting your milk supply. Fluid intake and being well rested affect milk supply too. Once you are more established in your milk supply (a few more weeks) you could then start slowly adjusting your calories to find a good balance between producing enough milk and losing weight slowly.

The truth is that I'm not sure much would affect my milk supply. Last time I had oversupply the whole time despite block feeding for months. I figure that if anything did affect my milk production then I can change things around. I forget to eat regularly and did last time. Mostly I just want to remember to eat as much as I need.

I would suggest logging your food here but focus on your macros, your nutrients for now. Make sure your body and your baby are healthy, start an exercise program when you are able and let the weight come off naturally since you're breastfeeding.

After that, if you still feel like you will become unhealthy again maybe consult a nutritionist or a doctor? Sometimes hearing what we already know from someone else seems to make more sense.
