Savage Race, anyone??

I am lookin' for advice from those who are familiar with/have done this type of race. My husband got the bright idea to run the savage race in September, but please keep in mind that he hasn't really worked out much less ran, in years. We plan on trainin' for it, and I have been doin' C25K in preperation for a 4-miler that I am runnin' two weeks after said savage race, but my husband just started runnin'. (I have been runnin' off and on for 3 years now, minus the time I was preggers).
What should we do to train? We won't be runnin' the competitive part, just want to actually complete the thing and have some fun with it. Any *helpful* advice is greatly appreciated. :flowerforyou:

Are you doing the one in Pennsylvania? I'm hoping to do that one. Just started training. Right now I'm running 3 days a week, the third being a "long" run. Only up to 4 miles but should be over 10 by each then. I also do my "Mudder" functional training 3 other days a week (one rest day per week). It's basically a modified circuit training routine, each exercise as many reps as I can do in a minute, then 30 seconds rest. I do the circuit 3 times with a 3 minute stair climbing "rest" between each circuit.

    Push Ups
    Kettlebell Squats
    Burpees
    2 minutes Uphill Runs
    Bench dips
High Step Ups (will progress to box jumps)
    2 minutes Balance
    Pull Ups
    Weighted Lunges

I found a training plan online that I might begin 4 weeks before the race. Or I might just tweak mine some more, like adding bear crawls, monkey bars, etc. I'm 59 years old, just hoping to survive and have fun doing it. Will begin to look for a race partner or team shortly.
