Men's Fitness Magazine Wannabe

I'd like to get people's opinion on their ideal fitness goals. I see these guys in fitness magazines and aspire to have the same type of body, tons of ripped muscle. I'm talking about the guys you see in Men's Health, not like you see in Bodybuilding. I know these guys didn't get that way overnight and most don't look that way all of the time as they generally prep for their scheduled shoots. I'm already a pretty muscular guy and have managed to get in pretty good shape in the past but have never been able to get that ripped 6 pack you see these guys have, maybe a 4 pack but never 6. Is it reasonable to set my goals for what I see in the magazine or is that not feasible as genetics play such an important role in our overall fitness outcomes?

Yes, genetics play a major role, but that doesn't mean you can't get to the point where you're happy and satisfied with your body and muscles. You're aiming to be the best YOU, not the best of the Men's Health models, you know?

I'm going to default to Alan Aragon on this one:
Keep your eyes on YOU. It's fine to get inspired by others' physiques, but you have to set your own personal standards. People tend to fixate on their weaknesses, while at the same time obsess over the strengths of others. That's a surefire way to stay eternally frustrated. It's a healthier approach to acknowledge your own strengths, and use them as benchmarks by which to bring up your weaknesses. Learn to give yourself a pat on the back for the improvements you make.
