Still gaining on 1200. Help?

After a week of binge eating from stress, I decided enough was enough. I gained 5 pounds and wanted to drop the weight as fast I gained it. (110->115) Before the binge, I was on maintenance because I had already reached my goal. I've been eating 1200 for a few days now (coupled with exercise) and gaining weight instead of maintaining or losing. I'm always hungry throughout the day, but manage to resist the urges, yet I'm still gaining. Last time I was eating 1200 to lose weight, the number on the scale always either stayed the same or went down; never went up. So I really don't know what's going on. I'm using a food scale to measure everything I'm eating. This is really discouraging. Any idea as to why this is happening?

A few days is not enough time to tell if you are gaining weight. You are exercising also. "Gaining weight" can be a matter of normal weight fluctuations. Sore muscles hold water, higher sodium days you hold water, hormones (TOM) you hold water, your bowel can be holding fluid too.
If you have gained pounds in a matter of a few days......3,500 (1 lb.) x 2 = 7,000 calories. That's just for 2 pounds. If you didn't go 7,000 calories over, then chalk it up to normal weight fluctuations.0 -
A few days isn't long enough. Can you open your diary and tell us your stats?0

Muscles will sometimes hold water after a hard workout. Make sure you are staying hydrated and give it more than a couple of days.0

First, the 5 pounds you gained in a week of bingeing isn't all fat -- a big part of it is probably water.
Second, aside from water retention, your body doesn't respond that quickly to what you do. You can't eat a little less today and see the effects tomorrow.
If it's only been a few days, your body is probably still reacting to your binge. You need to calm down, go back to your maintenance intake, and give your body 2-3 weeks to settle down.0 -
Give it some time, lol. Wait at least two weeks before you decide that it isn't working. At least two weeks!
