When to slow weight loss down?

I set my mfp calories to 1200/day as guided to lose 2lbs per week. I have been dieting for 4 weeks and have lost about 14lbs...due to weigh in on Sunday so not sure exact amount. I have been exercising daily, and eating back those calories.

Anyway, I am at a point where I have a healthy bmi and my clothes fit better, but I am still not at my goal weight, and therefore I want to lose more weight.

Question is, do I continue to do this aggressively or am I better off upping my calories to 1400/1500 and doing it gradually? I suspect most people will say gradually, but I am afraid to lose momentum and am never starving as it is...maybe a little hangry from time to time. Will I still lose at 1400/1500 calls per day?

Experienced opinions welcome on how to move forward.

I started at 2lb a week eating 1200- easily had a weekly 7k defecit with exercise
Then moved to 1lb a week at 1410 but with exercise tended to have a defecit of about 4500 to 5000 a week
I have about 14lbs to go and have reset to 1600 so 0.5lb a week but am finding I'm eating more and moving less since winter has come - I'm going to give it a month to see if it settles and see how I do

I've been doing this since 1 June - and have lost every month (ave 7lbs a month loss) I like the progression towards a maintenance amount but do find it harder the more calories I'm given to eat - go figure

There really isnt a specific time to slow down your weight loss your body will do that by itself especially if you are only eating 1200 per day the weight loss will start to stall. Once it does that increase your calories and the weight loss will start back up again.

Another way to look at it is instead of a set number of pounds per week, to look at a % of bodyweight per week. 0.5%-0.75% of bodyweight is plenty fast.
  • Don't concentrate on weight loss, consider fat loss, estimate your body fat% and look to reduce that instead.
