    Actually, that topic is NOT often discussed or debated on MFP that I've ever seen - though people do get confused and raise it up thinking that's what is being talked about.

    There is a big difference between what he's talking about - NO food, and what I'm betting you mean is a topic for discussion often, called starvation mode, aka adaptive thermogenesis, aka metabolic damage, aka metabolic efficiency.

    Which has many myths associated with it that actually apply only to starving as was talked about in the video, but also have some truths associated with it that are many times dismissed with the myths and the effect in general.

    As if there is no ability to separate the 2, there easily is.

    One of the easy ones, loss of muscle mass while in a diet. Only during starving with no food near the end as the video talked about? Or possible in a diet while still eating for other reasons?
  • Interesting video...somewhat overstated the impact of ketone metabolism on the brain, these side effects quickly pass once the brain has adapted to ketones. As for muscle loss, eating at a calorie deficit nearly always results in muscle loss. Ketogenic diets and the inclusion of weight training can minimise this but not prevent it
