Breakfast too little?

I usually have a smoothie and a half of a sandwich for breakfast, and it totals around 300 calories and 16g of fat (almost all the fat comes from my obsession with things made from almonds). Is that too few calories for a breakfast?

If you're not starving and getting the right amount of calories for the whole day/week, it's good.

I work out in the mornings, so all I usually have for breakfast is a shake mixed with black coffee and almond milk, which is less than 200 calories, but it keeps me happy until lunch most days.

I don't think so ... the idea of breakfast is just that ... break your fast from not eating since the evening before. What kind of smoothie and sandwich do you eat that only comes in at 300 calories? I'd like to try it myself.

You can eat as little or as much as you want for breakfast. Hell you don't have to eat it at all. Its all up to you. If that was an enjoyable breakfast and you felt satiated then it was fine. Doesn't matter how much or when you eat during the day, as long as you stick to your caloric goal.

I usually average around 200-300 calories for breakfast as I like a bigger lunch most days. I think it's fine as long as your satisfied enough and not binging when lunch time rolls around.

My breakfast is generally porridge with water and honey, sometimes plus banana

    It's around 150-200

Why does it matter how many calories you consume in one specific meal - it's sticking to your weekly defecit that matters

The amount of calories in one meal, the timing of those meals and the frequency of all meals are all irrelevant for weight loss. Total calories consumption in the day is what matters.
  • I usually mix unsweetened almond milk with some kind of frozen fruit and that's my whole smoothie. Then I spread some Naturally More Almond Butter with Flax seeds on a piece of bread (it has Omega-3s and stuff too. Super yummy). It's super filling, and is about 300-350 calories just so long as you don't use too much almond butter (it has a lot of calories and fat) and don't make your smoothie huge.

Slice of Italian Bread: 135 calories, fat 2 grams
Naturally more 1.5 tablespoons: 135 calories, 11g of fat
Frozen Fruit 1/2 cup: about 50 calories (depending on the fruit), no fat
Almond milk 1/2 cup: 15 calories and 1g of fat

So that's a total of 335 calories and 14g of fat. I don't know if anyone else will find it filling, but I do. You can also use something other than a piece of bread; I just haven't found another conduit for Almond Butter that's as easy/portable as bread. I've eaten this for breakfast everyday this week and it hasn't gotten old. Mostly because I can change up the fruit in the smoothie every day to something different. Some times, I add a little homemade jelly or jam to the half sandwich too, because I just bought this giant jar of homemade blueberry jam and it's sooooo goooood.
