New to exercising

Hi everyone, after getting my diet on track and losing a few pounds I have decided to start exercising, already feeling the benefits of cardio (walking up hills have become easier  ) but just want some general advice. As far as goals, it's mainly toning and maybe add a little bit of muscle.

So for cardio I've been doing the HIIT workouts, 3 times a week with 10 minutes consisting of warm-up/cool-down and ~6 minutes of HIIT but hoping to build that up to 10 minutes of HIIT within a few weeks. Is 20 minutes, 3 times a week enough?

For strength training, how many reps/sets should I be aiming for? I plan on working legs on the days I do cardio and upper body on alternate days, 3 times a week.

Sorry for the beginner questions

if your looking to tone i would go with heavy sets less reps. if you look on here for strength training it shows alot of great results pictures. just becare you dont want to go to heavy right off and hurt yourself!

My suggestion would be to find an established beginner's training program and follow it rather than trying to create your own. There are a lot of good suggestions for such programs in this thread: Beginner's strength training routine/ equipment/how to start?
