Calf and ankel pain?

For the first week of working out I was jogging or running on the treadmill. After while I noticed that my shin started hurting so I figured I had shin splints. So I quit using the treadmill, and I started using the stationary bike instead. I'm at the end of week two and it seems to be getting worse. So I just quit doing cardio all together. To give my leg some rest. (This is only in my left leg by the way) Now instead of just my calf hurting my ankle is starting to hurt as well, the outside of my ankle. It seems to hurt more when I'm just sitting and doing nothing.
Do any of you know how to get this pain to go away? Or what may have actually caused it, because I'm not 100% sure.
Thanks!
