Another quick question

Options
Hi All,

I know you all must be sick of questions around TDEE, exercise calories, BMR etc. but I just wanted to check a quick issue.

I know both my TDEE and BMR and used Scooby's workshop to work out both. I put in my activity level as 'Desk job - little to no exercise' which is true at the moment.

However, I'm looking at beginning the C25K programme in the next few weeks. Do I need to calculate how many calories I'm burning then to add to my allowance or can I just stick to the TDEE - 20% figure? I don't think I need any extra calories in that I seem to be sticking within my limit fine - but just a tad confused!

Thanks!

If you're using the TDEE method (as opposed to the MFP method of "eating back your calories"), you'll want to add the daily average of the calorie burn from the exercise onto your TDEE. Or just take the pragmatic approach of upping your calories if you're starting to lose too fast.

What I do and what I recommend to people is to eat at a calorie level that allows you to make good progress towards your goal. If you are trying to lose weight, eat so you drop 1-2 lbs/week. This assumes an average calorie burn from you getting in all of your workouts. This will be different for everyone, so you'll have to do some trial and error to figure it out. I'd start ~1600 cal/day. Hit this goal, along with your macros and getting in your workouts, for a week. If you lose 1-2 lbs, you're good to go. If you lose too much, increase your intake and repeat. If you don't lose enough, reduce your intake a bit and repeat. After a few weeks, you'll figure out what works for you in your situation.

you might be ok now, but when you start exercising regularly you may welcome the extra food!

i would recalculate your TDEE with exercise.

Thanks everyone! Guess it's just a bit of trial and error from this point. I appreciate the help :)

Eldamiano: The qu itself was quite quick but I wanted to give enough info for any potential helpers to actually be in a position to advise me.
