struggling this year :(

I seem to gain weight every two years. In the past, when I've wanted to lose weight, I just did it. I had no problem counting calories & exercising regularly. This year I've gained 10 pounds and every single time I try to lose, I fail. It's my own fault, I give into food temptations way too easily and have been so lazy when it comes to working out. But why is this time such a struggle?! I have the mindset when I try to cut out certain foods that I'm missing out on something & when I try to just limit, instead of cutting out completely, it seems that makes me want more!
