Not eating enough calories

I'm going to 1st say I haven’t been keeping track of my cals on MFP like I should but for the past couple of days I have been trying a bit harder....NOW, in saying that, please don't reiterate when you check my log. Thanks :-)

I am not eating the 1500 cals I should be eating, I'm not even reaching 1000 and I feel full, eating something healthy every 2-3 hours to keep my metabolism up and running but again not reaching the 1500, not even close. I even included a muffin (that I haven’t eaten yet) just to up the cals.

I just finished lunch and I was full before eating the whole thing, still had some haddock and greens left but super full. If I go by my prepped meal and snacks I’m seriously slacking.

Let me just say, it's NOT that I am NOT hungry, It's that I am eating and basically feeling full once ....well ....I’m full.

Please let me know what I should do to get my cals up or if this is OK for now.

Any info will be helpful.

....I'm also doing HIIT in the evenings for 25-30 minutes at most.

Eating the right number of cals is important - just because you might feel full doesn't mean you're getting everything you need.

To get more cals in without eating a ton more food, add more calorie dense foods to your day - avocados, nuts, nut butters, full fat dairy, olive and coconut oils, etc. Lots of cals in small portions which will get you to your goal more quickly.

aliah1981 how do you know how many calories you should be eating?
  • I like to eat almonds for calorie fillers! They're tasty and a small amount yields a pretty high calorie count.

Meal timing has no effect on metabolism.

Are you accounting for oils used when you cook your haddock? That can add into your calories. After that, I'd add in more calorie dense foods (nuts, nut butters, dairy)

Also, if you aren't using a food scale, it's probable that you're eating more than you think, which can help out to a certain extent

Don't get upset, I have the same problem. I generally can't eat as much in one setting because I get full (i.e. satisfied) pretty fast and just don't want to keep stuffing food in my face. There are many days that I just don't make my calorie count, some days I'm well below because I'm just not hungry. I really think it's because your stomach has shrunk and you get the I'm full signal. Try eating more meals throughout the day whether you are hungry or not, just a small item such as nuts or some other high protein filler, which some have already mentioned before. A good choice is a protein shake to fill in the gaps. Find one that doesn't cause bloat, tastes good and doesn't make you fill overly full to up your caloric and protein intake. I ran out but I'm planning on buying another tub of Syntha6 tomorrow to make sure I get my daily calories and protein requirements met.

Eating every few hours for metabolism is a myth.

Eat something besides kale and spinach. Those things are good to eat, but 4 ounces of fish and some green stuff is obviously not very high in calories.

Peanut butter sandwich and a glass of milk should give you about 480 calories.

Hunger (and lack of) is determined by hormones. How much you eat influences those hormones. How long have you been eating light?

Well, just eating boiled greens and baked fish isn't necessarily healthy. You're very low on fat and are probably not getting a good range of micronutrients. Did you use the recipe builder to enter your muffin recipe? Unless you did, I'd guarantee that calorie count is off.

I don't use a food scale. I don't want to have to go that far with watching what I eat. I'm just trying to eat clean. I will however add nuts butter and a little dairy to the equation, i do love yogurt!! Mmmmmm....yogurt!!

If you aren't using a food scale then you really don't know how much you are eating. The most successful people on here use one. Small errors in measuring can add up to enough calories that you do not lose weight. And estimating, not measuring, is almost always even less accurate.

You have no idea how many calories you're eating if your not weighing, so this is probably a moot point. Your profile is hidden so it doesn't say if you're trying to gain or lose weight???
