God.. someone on my FL posted about this and I totally thought they meant like... band as in a musician. Is this like a FitBit type thing?

It's only just been released give it a chance
  • I am loving mine so far. Especially the continuous H/R monitoring, gps, and all the notifications that sync with my phone. Starbucks scan pretty nifty too.

Have you found a way how to sync burned calories/steps to myfitnesspal?

  • I bought one too. Seems a very nice device! (Don't forget to stick a protective sticker asap, as I did... :)

Mine will arrive on Tuesday. Can't wait. Until then I can't help with how anything works, but it seems MFP is a bit behind. I don't see any mention on App pages yet that the Band will work, though on Microsoft site it's clearly mentioned.

For anyone wondering how the Band and MFP sync (as of right now) check out this thread from over at Windows Central -

Really? That's interesting since on Microsoft's official page says it does. http://www.microsoft.com/Microsoft-Band/en-us#

Email response from support about Band syncing with MFP

    "Hello ,

We definitely plan on adding more integration partners to our program in the future. At this time, we do not know who those partners will be, nor do we announce any partners until they are officially live.

We will take your recommendation into consideration when we do. We also recommend you contact them as well and let Microsoft know you would be interested in having them integrate with us?

For now, to view a list of our current partners, please visit: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/apps

In the meantime, thank you for using the program. Please let us know if you have any other problems or questions. We wish you all the success in reaching and maintaining all of your health and fitness goals.

    Warm Regards,
    Jay

    I'm baffled?

Weird way to work a partnership - looks like MFP is not ready doesn't it

That said can't wait to hear about the HRM function accuracy - will it replace chest bands?

Yeah, very confusing and misleading by Microsoft. MS says it does support it and MFP says not yet. Though I am sure they will, I think it's wrong making people think it will be supported right out of the box.
  • Would this work well with my iPhone 6? I'm getting tired of Fitbit and want to try something new and I never thought I'd say it, but Microsoft has an interesting looking product on their hands

Hm... It seems there is some integration working between Band and MFP. I did my first workout yesterday with the Band recording it and my calories appeared on MFP. I think it happened because I configured MS Health app on my iphone to integrate with MFP app on iPhone. So it looks like app -> app integration, not like a straight integration between services or service and device. Will check more and confirm.

It works with my iPhone 5s, so it must work with iPhone 6 too... I am using it for two days and I must say I am starting to love it! It really helps and not only with measuring health stuff but makes me more productive too! BUT WE NEED MORE INTEGRATIONS ASAP!
  • Looks like my exercise data is being updated now from Band to MFP, but it put on my MFP twice giving me two bouts of recorded exercise for one? Anyone experience that?

@Mishootka how did your Zagg screen protector go on. Mine went on badly, wish it came with two of them.

As to exchanging exercise data - mine works well, except I need more than just that.
    And screen protector... 1v04r5wrlw7v.jpg
Definitely I will do better next time. I made some mistakes initially. And I also got a big bubble of air inside which I accurately popped with a needle. It's not noticeable now. But because the screen and the frame have slightly different height, there's a white line of trapped air around my display :-(

Where did you get your screen protector? I ordered online, so I'm wondering if I am just out of luck?
  • I purchased it at my local retail MS store, they gave it free with $5 starbucks card

Out of curiosity, has anyone worn the MS band in the shower?

It's not waterproof, so wearing in shower is not recommended. It's water resistant (i.e. washing hands, sweating, rain, etc.)
  • If you have a local Microsoft store I hear you can get on a waitlist for when they restock. You can also check online on MS site.

Hard to find now. They sold out in less than 24 hours. eBay had them selling close to $500.

Well, crap, I should have sold it on Ebay instead of returning it. LOL
  • I am using MFP app on Windows Phone and it is working fine with the Band. Workout data sync'd up into MFP within minutes. Very cool device. Loving the integration.

I currently have the Fitbit Flex and love all the info it provides, but now I am looking to upgrade. I'm thinking about the new Fitbit ChargeHR or the SURGE both of which are not out yet, but "coming soon." Now I'm thinking about the Microsoft Band. I'm a female with small wrists so wondering about the size for all these devices. I think the Surge looks the biggest, but that is the one that is most comparable to the Microsoft Band.

Anyone have any insight or opinions on any of these options? Though unfortunately no one will have actually tried the new Fitbits. What made you choose the MS Band over the Fitbits or other options?

Does the GPS feature for the MS Band show your distance/time right on the screen as you are running? I currently use MapMyRun so that I hear when I've reached each mile marker. Wondering if it shows that info on the MS Band as you go?

The size is the main reason I am returning. Even with the small, it just doesn't fit right. It was too long, and move around on my wrist, yet it put pressure in such a way that it partially cut off my circulation. I had that 1/2 numb kind of feeling. It was enough that I could tell after a few hours of wearing it that it wasn't something I could get used to. If I loosened it enough that I regained circulation, then it moved around even more, which would prevent the heart rate from reading. And the idea of trying to do kickboxing with it on was kind of scary. LOL I'm sad, but I guess I'll wait and see about the FitBit Surge. I also heard that Jawbone is supposed to be announcing some new bands soon as well.

Just got my Band, but I wasn't able to get to the gym today, so all I can share is that it is counting my steps, heart rate, and is synced up to MFP. I see an "adjustment" under exercise, but it shows 0 calories since (I believe) the Band has not calculated I've burned more calories today than what I have set as my daily target in MFP. My understanding is once I start exceeding that number (with workouts, etc.) it will award me more calories. That's what I want.

Only thing I can't find is how to turn on Negative Adjustments. The FAQ says it should be on the Settings > Diary page, but there is nothing there. I wonder if it was removed because it was not working right?

Gym tomorrow morning, early, so I'll provide feedback after that.
