MFP and IIFYM

I am going to be going into maintenance on Monday and I checked my TDEE on IIFYM and they are very similar to the ones on MFP. I guess it doesn't really matter, but since I log my food here,I'll go by MFP guidelines. This make sense?

You can change the numbers anyways if you need to, just go to custom goals.

But for me, I find IIFYM calculator to estimate low. might want to try a few calculators and see how they differ. I have my preferred ones on my profile!

When you say though that IIFYM and MFP line up, how are they lining up? MFP does NEAT, so it doesn't take into account your exercise energy. IIFYM calculator does take into account exercise. Are you comparing your average intake when including exercise calories? So e.g. if your NEAT here is 2000 and you burn like 200 calories 5x a week, on average you maintain at 2140. Would IIFYM calculator add up to this as well? Or does IIFYM add up to just your NEAT without exercise? If this is the case, definitely use a few other calculators.

No it doesn't make sense as MFP isn't a TDEE calculator unless you do no or an insignificant amount of exercise the numbers should be different.
Remember the MFP goal is XXXX calories plus exercise calories.

It's a moot point anyway as there's a good chance you may need to amend what are only estimates.
Why not use you own data which will compensate for food and exercise logging inaccuracies?

When I put in my exercise for the dayon MFP, which is pretty consistent, TDEE in IFFYM and MFP with exercise calories added back in are within 50 cals of each other.

I am aware of this--IN IIFYM i would simply eat at my TDEE-On MFP I would eat back my exercise calories--These are roughly the same which makes me think that both calculators are on the money

    Congratulations on hitting your goal!

When I hit maintenance, I switched to TDEE. My exercise routine is pretty much set each week, so I would expect my calorie burns to be very close overall. Now, I just log them as 1 calorie. As for what level of calories I needed to maintain, I had to figure out what I was eating total before and how quickly I was losing weight. That will give you an idea of what you should be eating in maintenance. Some people like the extra incentive that the MFP method uses towards exercise. For me, I was just tired of adjusting my calorie intake daily and decided it was better for me to eat the same every day. That said, it still took me almost three months to find my actual TDEE. Good luck!

    Thanks for your response Happy

Yes, that makes sense then...I always tell people the two method are 6 of 1, half dozen of the other...the only difference between the NEAT method (MFP) and the TDEE method is where you account for exercise.

The NEAT method can be beneficial for people who are not consistent in their exercise regimen...but IMHO, the TDEE method is far more intuitive...but you have to be consistent in your activity.

From you initial post, I was confused as well...
