Low fat foods and advertising

I just realised something. This morning on the way to work I saw an advert for UPBEAT drink or whatever the hell it is. It advertised itself as full of protein and low in fat. And then I just realised that it doesn't matter for something to be low in fat, fat doesn't make you fat, excess calories do. Of course all my life I didn't know this until recetly so whenever I was buying a low fat food I thought it wouldn't make me fat when in reality it doesn't matter as long as you watch the rest of what you're eating.
I suppose most people don't know this. In fact, you can eat more or less what the hell you like as long as you stay within your calorific means.
