MFP calories burned grossly inaccurate?

I'm a total noob at this stuff, but I always thought the MFP calories burned for activities seemed high. Then I joined a gym that gives you estimated calories burned on their treadmills, bikes, elipticals, etc. I'm still pretty hefty, at 252lbs on a 5'3" frame (have lost over 100lbs) and I put my weight in on the machines, but it will show I burned like 100 calories while MFP will say as high as 300. What gives? Which is right? My HR is also measured on some of the machines and stays fairly high - 140-155 bpm, but I don't know if the machine takes that into account. But MFP doesn't have that info.

Both will be inaccurate...it depends on your age, weight etc. Possibly the most accurate would be if you would connect your heart rate monitor i.e. via bluetooth with some mobile app in which you would provide needed details about you. Note that there is also lot of errors in logged food at mfp. I once scanned a lean beef steak which showed 99g of sugar :-)
