Can I go to the gym?

I've recently (last Monday) had a toe operation, and have been advised against gym running or vigourious exercise or using gym communal shower by the podiatry nurse.
Thing is, can I still use the bike or walk on their treadmill do you think? I can't get through to the podiatry team at the moment and I'll only be able to wear sandals rather than trainers to the gym anyway
I've tried calling the gym manager and I'm still waiting for a callback
What do you think?
The wound is open, as in not stitched, but is covered with a good layer of protective dressing iykwim

I vote no but that's based purely on personal revulsion at the thought of you walking in sandals on a treadmill, catching the flappy toe of the sandal, tripping, opening the wound and leaking your toe juice on the treadmill belt. For crying out loud, you just had surgery. Take a break! If you really MUST exercise, look up Leslie Sansone on youtube and "walk" in your living room.10

So much this.
I'm gagging at the image she created.

You also could try searching on YouTube for "chair exercises". That way you can exercise and not place excess force and stress on your foot.
Do you have hand weights?0 -
If you must walk, walk outside. No need to possibly contaminate yourself with all the germs at the gym. Besides, nobody there wants to see that.3
-
no way id not like someone contaminating my gym with open wounds health and safety guidelines must be followed for you and others1

Take a break and just watch your calories! I dont think the gym will let you work out anyway Im pretty sure that would be a huge liability for them if you got hurt or messed your toe up. Take some time and work your upper body if you must exercise but give your toe some time to heal.1

Toe juice. I dieded.
I know how frustrating it can be to be told you can't exercise. Go for a nice stroll outside, or do some upper body bodyweight exercises at home.3 -
Talk to your doctor about what exercises you can do. But please don't do them at the gym with an open wound. It's for your safety and the safety of the other gym members. Gyms are germ ridden zones of horror when it comes to open wounds.
Talk to your doctor. People here can't tell you if cycling is ok. If you must exercise, do it at home.2 -
No! Be Patient, and wait for the all clear! It's your health your risking by going...
FYI, Most Gym's would probably not allow you, I certainly wouldn't, based on the fact that with your condition and an open wound, you would void their insurance policy, they won't like that
FYI*2 - I personally had a Toe op years ago, and was refused entry on those exact conditions. I only tried coz being home is boring..
Do what the doc says. I doubt you'll have a Doc on here that can advise better0 -
They tell you not to do it for your own protection. You don't want the thing to get infected and you don't want to cause further damage. Rest it, soak it if they told you to do that, and be patient. You'll be up and about soon enough, if you let it heal.1
-
Glad you see the setback did not stop you from wanting to continue working out. Open wounds in the gym. Let it heal man. That can get infected since you can only use sandals.0

Talk to your healthcare team about this issue. They will most likely say no.

Will you hire a team of professionals to medically sterilize the treadmill before and after you use it? no? Then please for the love of all that's not infected, don't.1

Stay home. No one wants to see your open wound. Open wound=infection if not careful especially at a dirty gym.0

Or they tried going to the gym and have since had to have their foot and/or leg amputated due to MRSA.0 -

I would vote no. You can look up seated cardio and other home based work outs that would likely be safer while you heal.0

Since it has been over 2 years and the wound should be healed, I am gonna say you are good to go.1
