So how does this progress work?

I am currently on Week 3 of the C25K (its actually week 4, I repeated week 2 twice but yeah) and I have noticed my legs look a bit more defined and I have lost inches in my hips (not sure specifically how much). I haven't lost much weight, but I can feel way more muscle in my legs, calves, abs, and arms. My question is, since I am trying to lose weight, why am I gaining muscle and losing inches but not losing weight? I'm really really happy I'm losing inches and am becoming healthier but it just puzzles me how this process works. Before starting this process I thought people, in general, lost weight and then were able to get toned? Sorry if this is confusing, not really sure how to word it.

You more than likely not gaining muscle from running and especially after only 4 weeks. You are just seeing fat loss which makes your muscles look more defined. You are probably retaining fluid.0

Ohhh! Yeah that definitely makes sense. I know I shouldn't compare myself to others, but it just makes me wonder how others can loose X amount of weight in a month, where as others lose inches at first.0
