Master of excuses!!

After a bought of illness (approx 6 weeks) and work and family stress, I have put on a stone over the last couple of months. I'm still 2.5 stone lighter than when I started but it has caused me to become rather miserable with myself, and im finding it impossible to get back into things. I manage to stick to it for a couple of days and then I cave and fall off the wagon. I need to stop giving in and making excuses. This is my attempt to admit that it's not an excuse and to give myself a virtual kick into getting back into it. I am so disappointed with myself, and its now causing issues with my relationship and social life, due to lack of confidence. Things have to change before I give up on myself altogether.

I totally understand your frustration. Don't be so hard on yourself. It sounds like self-discipline is what causes you to spiral down in all aspects of your life. You are actually lucky to be able to see that. Many people aren't able to identify these things until very later in life, if ever.

The big challenge for you is not to set yourself up to fail by taking on too big of a challenge at one time. If someone kicks out your chair from underneath you, you can't blame yourself for falling. Stop kicking out the chair from underneath you.

My humble opinion is that your should start slow, make changes for yourself, and celebrate the small changes that will lead to big changes. In my experience the biggest change to make is to start making decisions, not excuses. Change your internal dialogue. If you want to do something "decide to do it". This will give you more power, even if it is a decision that is not in line with your goal. Soon you will see that you can decide to do, or not to do anything you want. Making excuses sucks our power away. Be accountable to yourself.

I am not sure what your goals are (ie get healthy, loose a specific amount of weight), but I only focus on my health. I feed my body what it needs to be strong and able. It is my job to help my body be healthy. When I focus that way, I avoid those things that harm my body. In my case, I am a celiac. All food needs to be scrutinized to be sure it will not hurt me. It was really hard in the beginning, but it absolutely gets easier. As I was eating foods and doing things that helped my body instead of hurt it, the by-product was weight loss, more energy, and a healthy strong body.

Decide what your focus is and just keep going.

I hope this helps a bit.

    Lisa
