Fitness Help - Fat Loss + Strength Building

I'm trying to find a workout that will allow me to prep for next year's soccer season (I wasn't in the physical condition to do it this year). I'm 18, 145 pounds, 5' 4" and petite. Unfortunately, I've been sedentary for... The last two years, I guess. I measure 38-28-26 but have a wrist that is about 5.5 inches.
I know Interval Training burns the most amount of fat and builds strength, but I'm at a loss on how to do it. Any advice/ideas would be greatly appreciated - last time I tried to get back in shape, I hurt myself, so I want to do it correctly, safely, and efficiently, preferably in a way that lets me see results quickly.
