Not really the way I wanted to do it, but...

since early September, I've been ill with a kidney infection (which was cleared rapidly with antibiotics, of course) and an ovarian cyst that may have something else hiding under it, both of which have been causing a lot of pain and nausea, and limiting my ability to eat solid food...

On the plus side, I've managed to do a good job of cutting the soda down to maybe a 2-liter every couple of weeks, and been doing reasonably well at balancing nutrition on what I COULD manage to eat. Canned soups, soft canned veggies, applesauce, jello, canned fruit, fruit juice, scrambled eggs, etc. are not exactly normal as the only foods found on dieters' lists, and the limitations of no soy, no dairy, no high-fiber foods, etc., make for a complicated juggling act. I wasn't supposed to eat eggs either, but I needed to get protein somewhere!

On the other hand, the protracted period of pain and nausea has meant I've gone from 225 to 194 in the space of about 2 months flat, just over 30 lbs down. I'd like to keep it off, but I'm not sure how doable that's going to be, as I've not been able to exercise much or get enough calories in a day, and I'm sure I've lost a fair bit of muscle in addition to some fat.

Still, it's the first time in 10 years that I've been under 200 lbs, so it's still an achievement of sorts, and feels like an unexpected success. It's also 31 of the 38 lbs I've managed to lose, so it could be a kick-start if I'm careful when I can eat more bulky foods again. But I'm really craving a trip to the really good, scratch-made, locally sourced, pizza place down the street...and all their stuff is bigger than I can eat in a reasonable time frame (2-4 days).

Surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, so perhaps I'll be able to do more than the odd bit of housework or walking a couple of blocks again soon, but it's going to take some careful management to avoid putting a bunch of pounds back on as I rebuild muscle while hopefully burning off the fat that's still on me.
