Replaced scale battery - gained weight!

I have an electronic scale which seemed to be accurate (at least consistent) This morning no visual display so I replaced the battery as the scale is about 2 years old. Now I have a nice bold display but it's weighing me as over 2 kilos (5lbs) MORE than yesterday :-( I was in maintenance so I'm 100% sure I haven't suddenly gained this overnight! Now what to do ? If this reading is right then I'm not at my goal weight at all. All my progress graphs which I find motivating are skewed too. Any thoughts? Has anyone else had this happen ?

Hi - I'm not sure. I've been at maintenance for several months, weigh daily and know my body well. Too much of a coincidence I think - I googled it and there was mention that a scale can become less accurate as a battery comes to the end of its life so I reckon that today is my 'accurate' weight and the others could have been dodgy. Thanks for your thoughts0

OMG, that would suck!
What can you do? Nothing. Maybe tomorrow it will be down a little. I think a weight jump of five pounds happening on the very day you happened to change the battery a little much to swallow. Possible, but unlikely.
Work with what you have.
That really does suck, though. Poor you!
I'm changing the battery in my scale tomorrow morning, after I weigh myself, lol. So, thanks for the heads-up.

Why does the number matter so much? If you haven't gained any actual weight but you have been happy with your body at your goal weight, why not make this your goal weight? Weight is just a number, don't focus on it too much. Take a deep breath. This is really not a big deal and if you were happy and healthy at your current weight just continue what you have been doing.0

Maybe your scale is accurate maybe not. Don't stress so much about it, it's just 2 kgs.0

I would be tempted to put the old battery back in.... lol0

ermergerd....
just track the trends and carry on. why this obsession with some arbitrary number. maybe concern yourself more with body composition and BF% rather than some arbitrary number on a scale that is going to be different on different scales and variable from day to day and throughout a given day...seems silly.0 -
Did you get on and off the scale several times to reset the scale after the battery change? I am assuming you have it in the same place, on a hard floor, not on a rug?0

From what I understand, a truly accurate scale is expensive. Mine was 20 dollars and works fine but the one at the gym is more accurate. My scale at home tells me I am lighter...which appeal to my vanity so there's that at least, lol. I figure that it's all relative, though. The number doesn't matter as much as act of reducing the number and staying on track.0
