So ... how can some people not want to eat a lot?

This isn't a sarcastic question or anything. I'm really curious about this.
Since I was a kid, I loved food. I always looked forward to the weekly grocery shopping with my mom, since I got to pick out yummy things to buy. One time, I brought home a brownie from school and the dog ate it and I literally started to cry hysterically, and I was 12 (my parents were baffled). That's how much I loved food. However, I know some people, including my cousin, that don't really think about food that much. They'll have a piece of cake during a party, and they'll like it, but they won't really think to have it normally. They're busy doing other stuff and they forget to eat.
I guess I don't get it. What does it feel like not to think about food a lot? Have any of you been in a period of your lives where you didn't think about food and lost/maintained weight without trying? What's it like?

I just get distracted easily and food is delicious but there are some many other things I want to do now that I have my health back. It can be a challenge for me at times after I managed to kill my body's ability to feel hunger and so there are actually times when I am not in regular routine that I have to set an alarm to remind me to eat which is weird to me to even understand. My doctor has been fantastic through all of this and very helpful. I would probably be in trouble without them.0
