Not telling about losing weight - Could use MFP friends

Could really use some MFP friends, I don't really have anyone in my life to talk to about food, exercise and weight loss. I'm not really telling any of my friends I'm trying to lose weight. I had an eating disorder when I was in my late teens and ever since my friends get really anxious when I start focusing on food again. It's very sweet of them and I understand why they are worried but It makes me feel I can't really talk to them about it.

My fiancee knows about the losing weight and he's being as supportive as he can. I've also told my mother who asked me to be very careful.

Yes there was some low self-esteem and body-image issues when I suffered from the eat disorder but it was also a very difficult time in my life and there were a lot of other things that set it off - I went to counseling for years and those issues just don't affect me so much anymore.

So I'm turning to MFP for that extra support and a place to turn to for advice.

Feel free to add me as a friend!

I feel for you. I have always had body image disorders and no one in my family was ever helpful. It caused me to see myself in a negative way for so many years and now that i really need to lose the weight im finding it hard to stay positive and keep going strong.. I will add you :) we can all use more positive encouragement and people to help us on our journey!

Anyone can feel free to add me as well. I can understand how your friends feel if you had an issue when you were younger BUT if you need to make yourself healthier than they should support you too. I know it is hard as I have some friends that had eating disorders when we were in high school and if they were to tell me they were going to try to loose weight I would keep a close eye on them and how they are doing it ONLY becaue I would want to try to help them not take the path they chose before. Good luck! Hope everyone is able to meet their goals!!

I was a full blown anorexic in my teen years, just weighing 100lbs, it's been years since i suffered through that, a lot of weight gained and as i get older, i view losing weight much more differently than I used to being the ignorant 15 year old I was.

Now I say embrace your curves, work hard and take care of yourself.
  • Hi!

I've been on MFP before and lost 40 lbs with ease. On that journey, I learned that the constant support of people with the same challenges is vital. I couldn't have done it without them. Unfortunately, life got in the way and I gained the weight back plus some--dang it! :explode:

I looking to build a support team (just like you) that will help cheer me on when I need a boost, give me an ear to vent to, and friends to celebrate my victories with. I promise to do the same for you!

Let's do this together. We can do it! :flowerforyou:

Just send me a friend request if you are interested.

I've suffered from body image issues for many years.. it's always been a struggle to accept how I look, even when I've been thin, it's never felt like it so I certainly understand the struggle. In recent years I've decided to focus more on muscle gain than lowering that # on the scale, because it just never feels like enough. Anyone feel free to friend me, as well.

Anyone can feel free to add me. I have always been overweight. To be honest, I never had a problem with my weight. I love me some me!!! The reason I started my weight loss program is to be healthy. Diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol runs in the family and I was at high risk. So I slowly started changing my eating and exercise habits. I didn't have to tell anyone about the change because as you can see from my profile picture, the change is slowly but surely paying off and people are starting to notice. We are all here to support you, we got your back. You can do this!!!
