I enjoy a couple of drinks about once every couple of months. Just wondering if this will sabotage
by weight loss goal.

If you are only drinking once every couple months it should not be an issue, the problem arises when it is constant! Enjoy yourself! And if you are still feeling guilty about drinking, wine is great for low cal drinks!0

Alcohol is pretty much liquid fat. It is definately going to sabotage your weight goal. I am giving up alcohol for three weeks (its not that hard but in the summer weather I love a mojito)! But I just keep reminding myself that;
1. The cocktails I love all contain copious amounts of sugar and fat.
2. The cider and lager I love also contain a lot of fat-and they bloat you, making you look bigger.
3. The goal at the end will be so much tastier than that light beer!
So I would say if you can try to keep it down to only a couple a week, or cut it out. Definately feeling a difference so far. good luck0 -
Nope, just dont do the whole Binge and purge thing. a little of anything every now and again wont hurt anything just be focused and on top of things0

It absolutely sabotages mine regularly. I have little to no self-control when it comes to alcohol though. I am working on that. If you can fit one or two drinks in your calories then go for it.0

Actually, you cannot store the calories consumed from drinking alcohol...you have to metabolize them immediately. But, what does happen is that anything you eat while drinking is going to get stored as fat (temporarily) because your body is completely dedicated to metabolizing the alcohol and can't metabolize anything else. I say temporarily because if you are at a deficit of calories, you're going to burn it as soon as your body is done metabolizing it.
I definitely cut back on my consumption when I was losing, but I did lose 35-40 Lbs drinking on weekends (and rarely in moderation). I've been maintaining now for a couple of months and getting ready to cut again to get rid of this last 5% or so BF so I'll be cutting it out of my day to day again, but will most definitely enjoy myself on the weekends.0 -

there isn't a trace of fat in beer. or Cholestrol for that matter.

I have lost 21 lbs in 12 weeks and while I have cut down, I haven't stopped drinking. keeping to weekends, usually one night a weekend, for the most part. The bigger problem I have is binge eating when I drink.0

I've cut it out for a month or two in response to a fitness challenge, but I don't think it's keeping me from reaching my goals.

Because it has a lot of calories, be careful to measure it accurately. I think that has been my downfall with working drinks into my calories in the past. I estimated and truly was drinking a lot more calories than I thought... or I assumed what a restaurant served me in a glass of wine was a regular serving, but truly the glasses are larger. Other than that, as long as it's in moderation, I don't think it's a big deal.0

You'll be fine.. A "bad day" once in a while won't sabotage your weight loss. It becomes an issue when your caloric intake ramps up beyond what you're expending every day. Will going out with some friends and having a few cocktails sabotage your weight loss? Absolutely not. What will kill it is the urge to munch on bar food or to grab that after-bar pizza... Those are the calories and fat that sneak in that you don't really think about until you've packed on a few extra pounds and can't figure out why.0

^^^ This is why you need to do some actual research yourself if you want intelligent answers to a lot of questions around here. There are a lot of really good people that are great resources here............but you need to sift through the windbags that post uneducated replies.0 -

Me too - I reward myself for a long day of hard work with 1 glass of red. I've lost 28 lbs since the beginning of Feb so if it's sabotaged my progress, it's minimally. I met the goal I set for myself and am currently working on my stretch goal. I won't have it if my calorie allotment doesn't have room for it.0 -
Red wine...mmmm! Thank God scientists are now talking about the health benefits it might have... Joking aside, I think the whole weight loss process is about moderation and planning, so if one doesn't exaggerate then a drink now and again shouldn't be a problem0
