Commuting, Working, and Studying

I lost about 25 pounds over the summer but have stalled in losing the 10 or so pounds left until my goal weight. I know exactly why - my diet is far less than perfect and I am not exercising. I would like people's advice, input, experiences, etc. with managing diet and exercise while being extremely busy.

Currently, I...
-Work full-time (sometimes overtime) as a production assistant at a factory
-Work two part-time jobs on an as-needed basis
-Study part-time, taking two university courses
-Am devoting time to interviews, job fairs, and job searching to find a better job
-Am getting anywhere from 4 to 5 and a half hours of sleep a night (6 hours of sleep is a luxury I get about once every week and a half)
-Either have 3-4 hours of commuting time per day or end up staying at my sister's place where she has no kitchen

I also try to eat vegetarian or vegan if I can manage it (I just really don't like meat... I find it a bit icky conceptually), but I know beggars can't be choosers.

Not complaining (I'm grateful for all these opportunities) just looking for tips to stay on track. I know I'll "make time for what's important to me". I'm just looking for some tips as to *how*.

Thanks.

If you think meat is icky, consider where plants come from. The grow in animal droppings and then we pull them up and eat them.
  • Yep. Considered. I garden. Still don't like eating blood or something that could hypothetically be my pet. Post still not about getting into a debate about vegetarianism. Post still about just working healthy eating/exercising into my life. Mentioned being mostly vegetarian for convenience's sake for people with real suggestions as to what to eat/to prematurely answer the questions of why I don't just eat meat. Would appreciate real on-topic suggestions.

What the first post describes goes beyond "busy."
The most important thing I see is that you need to make some changes in order to get more sleep. Are you sleeping during the commute? Is that how you manage?

Sleep is vital to overall health and not getting enough is a significant factor in weight.
  • Thanks RodaRose. I'm trying to find ways to cut down on my activities and refocus on fewer things. I don't sleep during the commute as I take several different buses and a train - none of the lengths of time are long enough to get a good nap in. I end up meditating, and that at least seems to help keep my stress under control.

Thank you for the article. I do need to find a way to get more sleep. I guess work or studies might suffer, but my health is important.

Meditation helps. Good luck cutting / modifying something so you can sleep more. :)

I would take any moments you have and prepare some meals/snacks for the week, grab and goes. Pre-logging helps, maybe on your commute?
