Excess carbs "spilling over" into fat?

I was researching bulking macros when I came across an article about creating said nutrient percentages.

One of the things it said was that you should tweak your carb and fat intake based on your body type (ectomorph, mesomorph, endomorph). Basically, decrease carbs and increase fat for endomorphs and do the opposite for ectomorphs.

I suppose the logic behind it, is that because endomorphs have slower metabolisms (whatever that means in this context), a higher carb intake will... become fat?

Is this real or just broscience? Does these body types actually exist?

It's probably not the best idea to base these types of recommendations based off somatotypes alone. Body typing using these three somatotypes is not a one-size-fits-all thing. There is a wide range of individual differences with how tolerable someone is with carbs. Some "ectomorphs" have more body fat than they should have, and a lot of those people are actually carb sensitive like endomorphs. However, personally I fit more into the typical ectomorph classification with a fairly high carb sensitivity.

Total broscience. Somotypes have been debunked.

Carbs don't turn into fat either....excess calories turn into fat.

I would say base your carb & fat intake off your type of activity, activity level, and personal preference after you've met your minimums for fats & protein.

You're going to have some fat storage regardless of the certain macro in a surplus.

Everybody reacts differently to fat and carbs - try what works best for you, align it with your preference (ei keep all the fat you want but give me carbs - and loads of them. I keep my fats to a basic requirement and fill in with carbs) and move on. It is a trial and error for sometime but eventually you will find your balance!

Any diet plan based on somatotypes, blood types, astrological signs or whatever else they can think of are based on magical thinking and not fact. Some like high fat diets and if they work for you and you can stick with it then by all means go for it but make sure you are doing it for the right reasons and not some "trick".

    Yup^^^

The whole soma type stuff is bro science and was debunked long ago.

Actually, the worst part was that it wasn't actually bro science but just a sad chapter in bad or pseudo science that somehow got some legitimacy for a while. Unfortunately, it didn't die like it deserved to as so much bad science in diet and weight loss tend not to. They are the true zombie apocalypse! >:)

actually we all react the same way biologically

No we don't - energy output from person to person will be different - then push it to extremes of food intolerance / allergies.... Give the carbs I eat to a celiac person - dies in horrible pain!

excess calories = excess fat; not excess carbs...

and I agree with other people that said the article is bro science.

so you are saying that I should not base my diet off the Mayan calendar...?

Given that they were wrong about the whole "world ending in 2012" thing, I would say no...

So we are living on borrowed time? Maybe we should have a feast!!!!

Yes! A fine feast, where macros aren't counted and all carbs are burned for energy!!

You can't have an allergy to carbs or fat

WTF is that about and how did I miss it? I have celiac and I eat lots of carbs. I doubt I'll be dying in horrible pain from GLUTEN-FREE carbs.

I'm curious when all of you came to the conclusion that you know absolutely everything about everything. . .

We do, but within certain parentheses.

I studied feed science (I am now a farmer) for a long while, and even within species/strains, animals will have varying FCRs (a FCR is an animals ability to convert its food into somatic growth - Feed Conversion Ratio). I see no reason why this should be any different in Homo Sapiens. This is why it is imperative that you find a calorific intake/macro split that works for you, use internet tools as an estimate and then tweak according to changes you can measure in your body.

Remember - nobody is a bomb calorimeter.

  • Broscience. Calories in calories out. Each carb and fat is equal to 9 calories. For example if your target fat 98 grams and carbs 350 but you get 100 grams of fat and 360 carbs thats adding 18 extra calories in fat and 90 calories in carbs which equates to 108 extra calories you need to add your daily calorie intake.
