question about calories

I have a bowflex scale that tells me water weight, body fat %, bmr, bone density, etc. According to my scale, at my current weight 2142 calories are needed to maintain my weight. MFP has me at 1200 (1700 with my built in deficit) Of course, on days I don't work out, I eat closer to 1200 - isn't this actually a 900 calorie deficit according to my scale? Now I'm confused all over again! I'm not going to change anything, since the scale is finally going down, but just looking for direction on the subject.

Well, your interpretation of the concept is correct, but the scale's estimate is likely not correct. Neither is MFP's. They're all just using averages. If you truly want to know, get an RMR test done at your local hospital. I have an Omron scale that gives me the same info and it displays BMR calories. And that varies from 1400 to 1600 depending on the day.

it adjusts it according to my height/weight/age - that's why i'm confused. If my weight on the scale itself is accurate wouldn't the maintenance caloric needs be accurate?

MFP does what you tell it - you said sedentary and 2 lbs/week by any chance ?

    I don't understand your 1700 figure

No, I have it set to active, #1/week with exercising 6 days a week for 30 minutes.
