My weight keeps creeping up no matter how little I eat. The photo in the icon is not me. I lost loads of weight 2 years ago undereating but steadily it came back on and I've gained 20lbs since. I only have 200-1300cal a day so I'm really distraught. I can fast for a couple of days but the weight loss is so minimal. I hate living like this and am not sure what to do or what's going on with my body. I also exercise lots so this is inexplicable. Has anyone else experienced a 0 BMR?

Hi there galaxy, from what you have said, I think you need to speak to someone who can really help you. Print out your post and take it to the doctor. Constant fasting is not the answer to maintaining a healthy body. You don't have a 0 BMR, what you do have is a body in starvation mode, and it needs you to break the cycle. Be gentle with yourself and go and get some help.0

I've brought it up to the doctor once awhile ago, thank you for responding. He says I don't look any different so it's okay. But it sucks because even one snack I can feel myself gaining weight from, I can't even enjoy a salad haha0

You seriously have days with 200 calories a day? Could well be there is your problem. When you body goes in saving mode and you eat a bit more again it will store it all, just in case you decide to severely under-eat again. I have heard it myself so very often, long time in my life: You want to lose weight? You need to eat more! and guess what? After a while my weight kept on creeping up as well with my destructive diet of 800 cal a day. No one has a BMR of 0, you haven't got either. I guess since you are 22 it must be around 1500-1600 cal. Maybe you should make a proper calculation of what you suppose to eat and I bet that's more then 1300 calories even! Dieting is really not about eating too little!

You need to get this properly explained to your by a dietician. You are really confused and are not doing your body any favours by eating so few calories.0

You shouldn't be seeing a GP about this, you need to speak with an eating disorder specialist. Your post has many clues about how serious this problem is. Don't wait. Please get professional help sooner rather than later. Take care of your mind and your body will sort itself out0

I agree what are you eating....keep a log and see an informed doctor or an accredited health care professional who can evaluate nutrition and come up with a bmr calorie , a reasonable calorie goal based on age and current state of health.0

It is hard, if not impossible for us to determine if you have an eating disorder, but I must say you do show some disturbing signs and I agree with the former commenters it would be a good thing to seek professional help with your diet.0

Absolutely!! I am POSITIVE that you have all the signs of an eating disorder! Although I'm not an MD, I have A LOT of experience with this. Trust me, you are struggling from an eating disorder. Not only did I have eating disorder growing up myself, but my daughter has one too! She went away for 3 months to Arizona to get inpatient help because I was afraid she might die; then, eventually, she tried to commit suicide. (Please read my blog, it's called "This is my story...")
Sweetheart, there is no shame in this....but you are in over your head! Please, go seek out professional help--and not from your family doctor (PCP) as he's not trained in this kind of thing---but from a specialist. Please, promise me you'll do this!!! Do it for yourself!!

You sound like you have an eating disorder. Listen to what people are telling you. Get a referral to someone who can help you with this. It is a very very difficult problem to treat. If your GP said 'you don't look different' it sounds like you said 'I feel fat'. That's not the question and that's not the problem.0

You guys are thoughtful, thank you for reaching out to me. I had 2000+ cal today so I think it will be fine. I am going to focus on breaking the habit for awhile and hopefully reap some benefits. I'm still really hungry which is frustrating it seems like once I begin eating I will never let up0

Your thinking is the problem "just 1 snack and I can feel im gaining" is one example of unhealthy thought process. Your body needs food to fuel itself 1 snack will not make you gain weight unless you eat a whole cow as a snack even then you may not gain. Please seek some medical attention because its not healthy.
You clearly lost weight so you know you can and how to do it sensibly I wish you well.0 -

You're not listening....One 2,000 calorie day does NOT not prove that you don't have more serious issues that what you may think. PLEASE HEAR ME, you don't have to live this way for 13 years like I did--you just don't have to anymore! You see, I'm 44 and when my eating disorder was at it's worst I was 14 years old. They didn't have the knowledge about this kind of thing back in 1986. I battled this horrible, painful, debilitating disease until I was 27--that's when I got pregnant and had to think of another human being living inside of me and not just of myself.
Consider just talking to someone who's better trained in this field that your GP. You're worth it...trust me, you are!!

Your eating disorder will trick you into thinking you can recover without help. You cannot and will not. You need to get professional help. And yes you should never "let up" eating. You need to thrive and survive. One 2000 calorie day will not do that.0 -
After reading through the forums for so long now.it is obvious that many of us here don't have a realistic relationship with food. If you think eating low calorie all the time is a way of life.. you're on a slippery slope.
So many on here who lose eating 1200 and below….get pretty much stuck in a vicious cycle…and never are happy.
I agree that you need to see an objective professional who you will believe when they tell you what they think.0
