Ok, so I want to get my bf a beard trimmer for Xmas. He's never had one and I don't know the first thing about them. He mentioned he would like one. So what do you guys use? Which is the best one? Or ladies, what do your men use?

That's the point!! He doesn't want to keep cutting it off completely... and neither do I. He wants to trim it and keep it nice!!

This is the one I have, it's been a very good one. But next one, I want it to be one I can use in the shower.

Any trimmer will do really, as long as there are guides for it. I personally don't care for the wireless ones, they seem to go bad after a while. I use a regular hair trimming wired set. Have used it for years and works just fine for me.

I would be HAPPY with a nice beard conditioning set though.

This. I don't know off hand what model mine is (have have used different ones) but the ability in the shower is my favorite thing about the current one.

Only other question is is he maintaining a beard to a certain length or trying to keep the couple day scruff look. There can be a difference in the trimmer he would want.

OK that wasn't there earlier.. odd post order earlier...

If he is keeping a longer beard groomed then I think @SGM_Adonis has the right idea, corded (or the ability to run corded and cordless) is the way to go. Nothing like being half way through and the batteries start to give out...

If he is shaving off and going shorter/scruffer (like I did this summer) then the shower option is the way to go.

OP, how much are you looking to spend? They can get really pricey.

I'd say his goatee looks like this

Really? Like a lot? I was thinking about $50... is that a normal range of what they cost, or is it more?

Go google "men's electric razor" in the shopping part. They seem to average about $70, but can get up into the hundreds. That being said, I've seen them at Kmart type stores for around $40, but the quality seems to be lacking. If he's a daily user you may want to get something a bit more substantial. Plus many of the reviews on the cheaper models claim they tug lots of hairs and cause a rash.

Yeah, the reviews of some that I saw were 50/50. That's why I thought I'd ask here. But some of the things the guys have said has helped. :)

For what it's worth, my brother has had one of the cheaper ones from Kmart for years now and I've never heard him complain. He's only a once-a-weeker though.

I don't recall the one I have right now, but I think it might be a Norelco. It was maybe ~$40 at Target. I got that one as it was a stubble trimmer rather than a beard trimmer and has 9 length settings. It has lasted several years, but the battery really doesn't hold a charge anymore, so I have to use it plugged in.

But I found that #1 is a bit shorter than I'd like, and #2 is too long. 3 and above are what I would call beard length, definitely not stubble! So try to make sure that you get something that is adjustable in the range he wants. Not that they usually tell you that info...
