This is a video about "Fasted Cardio"
https://youtube.com/watch?v=f2d0vYkWX0Y
Video by Dr. Phoenyx Austin

Fasted Cardio, or fasted training, is when you exercise before you eat anything.
Why many people fail when losing weight it because many people may not understand the important hormones in the body. This video talk about the important hormones insulin (fat storing hormone) and the growth hormone (fat burning hormone).
When you eat before you exercise, your insulin becomes elevated, and therefore your body is UNABLE to work off any body fat until your body has burned the calories you just ate.
The growth hormone is the hormone that stimulates muscle sinthesis and fat burning.
When insulin is elevated, your growth hormone is suppressed.
When growth hormone is elevated, your insulin is suppressed.
BASICALLY, get as much sleep as possible, and don't eat before you train or exercise.
Work out in the morning, and then eat a high protein meal at most 1-2 hours afterward. Eating a protein-packed meal, so your muscles can rejuvenate and burn fat.
Fasted cardio is a great way to burn fat FASTER, but it may not be for some people!

That's not how the human body works.

The problem with exercising before eating is that some people will experience a dramatic drop in blood sugar during exercise on an empty stomach. The result of this can cause extreme weakness and confusion that comes on quickly. It can also cause fainting. My son and daughter have both experienced this and neither one is diabetic. Vigorous exercise can have this effect on some people.

Actually, even though the OP has the details wrong, their premise is correct.

"findings suggest that there may be an advantage for body fat regulation and lipid metabolism in exercising before compared with after breakfast."
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23167985

The body uses carbs (glucose, then glycogen) and fat for energy. (Protein is a poor fourth, but if you don't have enough calories you will lose muscle because the body has to have energy.)

Because you aren't eating when you're asleep (at least, most of us aren't) your body is burning the carbs it has on board. When you exercise before eating, you're closer to using fat for energy than you would be after breakfast... but you don't have to burn _all_ the carbs in order to burn fat. You're actually using all of them all the time.

That being said, I don't think I've ever exercised before eating breakfast, and I'm doing pretty well. Just keep running a calorie deficit and you will lose weight.
