Im new to this whole trying to lose weight thing. Ive lost about 7 lbs now and my butt disappearing. Now I never really had a butt until I hit my max weight at 215 lbs. I liked having a but but the rest of the fat has to go..

Unfortunately now my butt is the first thing leaving!

So I'm looking for some exercises to do to help firm up and maybe get a little shape to my butt..

I'm 26 and yes I have 2 kids but I dont want a MOM butt yet!!

Help!

Squats. With heavy (for you) weights.

Squats, deadlifts and lunges. With weights would be best. The more challenging the better.

While squats and exercise will help keep the muscle, you can't fight genetics. If you didn't have a butt before you gained weight, it's unlikely you will have one after unless you built up some muscle during your weight gain.

Heavy weight Squats, lunges and swimming with fins on...OMG Swimming with fins will leave your butt so sore you won't be able to move...but if you keep it you will get some crazy muscle development. Also, if you do cardio on the treadmill switch to the elliptical and do it on a high stride setting. these all do wonders for your butt.

Heavy barbell hip thrusts (really heavy ... I'm up to 190 lbs X 10 with a 10-second iso hold) - This, when done properly, will activate your glutes more than pretty much anything else you can do.

Squats, lunges, deadlifts, good mornings, glute bridges, glute ham raises, and running or walking on an incline are also all great for your butt.

I have found that walking up and down the hills near my house really makes a difference.

I said this a few weeks ago but according to the squat brigade on MFP genetics do not matter one bit...

This is true to a point, but you can have two kinds of butt: a mostly fat butt and a mostly muscle butt.* If you have a mostly fat butt, you cannot spot reduce that. Your fat will come off when your body and hormones decide that it's time. But you can definitely spot-increase through diligent strength training for hypertrophy.

    * I suppose you can have a combo butt, too.

I guess I should have expanded... you can definitely spot increase during a bulk cycle... just not during a cut. So in the end, if you are left butt-less then you can bulk to add muscle.

I agree, you can't hope for much hypertrophy while cutting. But you can at least retain what little butt you do have if you target them glutes in your resistance training.
