Anyone have co-worker neighbors with vats of free candy?

Man... first week I have been just beginning to get healthy again, hitting the gym (or working out at home), eating a bit better - but I have a co-worker who has tons of candy he leaves out for everyone - people eating it by me all the time -
Trying to keep the healthy snacks and water going, but those kit kat's and whoppers are gonna be the end of me.

I dread December because every year a sign up sheet goes around and 1 or 2 people per day bring in treats. Yes, I bring healthy ones when it's my turn but there are 20 other work days in December....0

Just don't eat it.
Sounds stupid, but seriously. Walk around it if you can, don't look at it, just avoid it.
Every December my work goes stupid crazy with food, I just don't go near it!0 -
Self control is like a muscle. You have to use it in order for it to grow stronger.
If you pass his desk 8 times a day, consider those potential self control reps. Maybe today you can only do one rep (only 1 out of 8 times you resist the candy bowl). If you actually complete that rep, over time you can do more and your self control muscle will grow.
With time you'll be able to take on heavier loads like birthday cake. and office pizza.
It starts now with a single rep of kitkats.
Good luck.0 -

Oh if only it were that simple! They put it on a table in the hall leading to the washroom! If I could hold it all month I would! LOL0 -
literally turn your head away from it. We have a candy bowl on the table where we pick up our assignments. gaaahhhhh. I make myself not look at it. I may *see* it but I don't LOOK if you know what I mean.0

I don't see the issue. Just don't eat it or make room in your calories for a treat now and then. Somebody brings in donuts nearly every day at my work. There is a bowl of candy next to my desk. Another one in the kitchen. When I want a treat, I eat one. Otherwise I go on my merry way.0

Drink lots of water - honestly, when I want to give in I drink a huge glass of water and the feeling subsides.0

Just have to use self control. There's no magic fix to not putting food into your mouth, lol.
Another option is to bring some kind of treat for yourself so you don't feel left out? OR just try and have whatever you want but fit it in for the day?
Either way, it's about being accountable.

Wow, I can't understand why that is even necessary??? There are already extra social events to attend in Dec. that revolve around food. I can't see how bringing in EXTRA food daily is a good idea! That isn't directed against YOU personally. I just see it as really wasteful.
Personally, I'm embarrassed by the amount of food that is purchased, prepared, consumed, and even goes to waste during the holiday season. I'd prefer to donate all that food to the homeless shelter.0 -
This isn't something that's going to go away - there will always be temptations at the office so you need to have a plan.
I agree with the other people who say self-control is like a muscle, you have to build it up.
Make rules for yourself and stick to them.
Here are some of mine:
- If I want it, I have it, BUT: it has to be worth it (no eating it just because it's a treat, it has to be a favourite of mine); it has to fit in my day (so no big supper); and it can't make me feel like crap afterwards - so I usually make it like a mini-meal. A treat on it's own isn't filling (and that's why people binge) so pair it with other filling foods like a nice hot tea/coffee, and carrot sticks or apple slices. Then it's part of your snack and not just some random thing you stuffed in your mouth.
You can still have treats just have a plan, and think about the things you put in your mouth.
I also agree with having your own treats on hand. As long as it satisfies you and you don't end up eating your treat and theirs, as that has happened to me in the past.
Baby steps! You'll get there!0 -
Thanks Good tips..."reps of kit kats"... I love it.
So true though, it's going to be a long holiday season.
Working closely with a guy today who's been having the kit kats since 10am this morning.
Yesterday I turned down a cookie - I explained that after that cookie I would be thinking about having 5 pints of ice cream.
I once came in on a saturday and I left feeling sick from how many I had so I try to remember that feeling.
Water is a good one too - I had an apple so we'll see...
I definitely believe there is a place for these things but def while I am trying to get back in the rhythm it's not now.0 -
Keep yogurt and fruit and nuts with you as an alternative. That way you have something to eat of your own if you need it. Or just want something.0

I have a co-worker who always has a bowl of candy, mostly chocolate, at her desk and with the Holidays nearing will soon be bringing a large tray of homemade Christmas cookies and treats.
I just decided when I began this quest for better health that I no longer wanted it. It doesn't fit into my clean eating. I don't judge those who do partake, after all up to 6 months ago I was one of them.
Every morning I pack my lunch bag with a healthy, tasty, and filling lunch as well as an afternoon snack. If it doesn't come out of my bag for the day I do NOT eat it. I won't say there haven't been days where I REALLY wanted some chocolate but so far I have been able to resist.
I guess, in a nutshell, be prepared and have healthy and yummy treats close at hand so when temptation strikes, you have a plan.0 -
How about you just don't eat it, or fit it into your day. The world is not going to accommodate your lifestyle changes. :noway:0

We have decorative cookie jars in the office, maybe 60 of them. Since Halloween they've all been loaded with extra candy.0
-
I think they need to do studies on the gravitational pull of mini-sized candy in a dish. Especially bell shaped Reece's peanut butter cups.0
-
those are dangerous. fortunately, I leave them for the T2D coworker with no sense of self control. I use that person as a "watch out" example.0
-
Yes, but fortunately I'm a candy snob, and their candy isn't good enough for me.0
-
I find the easiest is not to have any at work. I have a sweet tooth and will usually include a treat daily but prefer this in the evenings at home so will avoid work treats for this reason. I won't eliminate treats completely as this lifestyle has to be longterm and realistic0

Would like/rep this post, cover it in chocolate and sprinkles and make sweet love to it!0 -
I keep a bunch of MY kind of junk food in my desk drawer...protein bars, Fiber One brownies, 100 calorie snack packs of cocoa covered almonds...I keep yummy flavored yogurts and low calorie ice cream treats in the kitchen. And if I'm going to eat candy, it's going to be real chocolate, none of that Hershey's crap.0
