Skechers has great running shoes. Pretty nice colors & comfortable.

Assics were my goto brand when running. Maybe go somewhere that checks your feet so can tell you what type show suits you.

I found some cute Nikes but I figured maybe I should find out which brand performs better

Go to a running store and get your shoes fitted. They can help make sure your shoe matches your stride as far as pronation, foot strike, etc.

I recommend getting fit at a running store. There are a lot of differences within a brand depending on your running gait. A shoe that's great for me may cause nothing but pain for you.

Definitely go by performance, not looks. But I'll agree with the others to go and get fitted. Ideally at a specialist running store that offers gait analysis rather than just a sporting goods store. I could recommend my shoes (which I love) but it'll be a useless recommendation if we don't have the same running style and foot structure.

The best shoes are the ones that are appropriate for you, what's right for me really may not be right for you.

I'd suggest going and getting some advice from a decent running shop that has a returns policy so that they can help you identify a suitable shoe. With a returns policy if they're not right, you can change them.

Take shoe advice with a grain. Most brands have models for different arch types, but some brands have different qualities that you may or may not like.

Go to a dedicated running shop and get fitted. Also, get educated on the return policy too. Don't feel obligated to be stuck with shoes that don't work for you. And if they try to sell you insoles, turn around and leave.

I second the recommendation to go to a running store. From what I understand, it isn't so much that one brand is better but that each brand can be better at working with different needs. Personally, I pronate and the shoes that have worked the best for giving me the stability I need to avoid injury are Brooks. But at the same time I was getting fitted, the person next to me was working with a different issue with her stride and foot placement and found that Nike had the best shoe to address her needs.

I got a pair of Brooks shoes a few months ago, and I really like them.
I was having bunion pain a while back, so I started wearing Injinji toe socks, which are nice for running, too.

I definitely support a running store - but if you can't, look at the bottom of a pair of well loved casual shoes that have minimal support. Analyze the soles, and see how they've worn. If the heals have worn, you are a heal striker and may want a bigger drop. If they wear on the inside, you pronate. If they wear on the outside edge, you supinate. Try a dozen different shoes (or so) even if you think they're ugly. I'm running in the most ugly shoes ever (IMO) and they're amazing. So who cares what they look like.

I'd recommend going to a running store. It has really helped me. I wear Brooks Gelatin with a green Super Feet orthotic insert, both purchased at the running store. And I wear running socks, such as Asics, as there is no friction.

Go to Jack Rabbit if they are around you. They do a test to see the best shoes for you and then give you a selection to see which work the best. Also, you'll get the right size. Don't buy the special socks - a waste of money. I never heard of the brand, Brooks, that I ended up with, but they are super comfortable and supportive and about the same price as any good shoe would be.

Reebok and Nike are good, so is Adidas.

"Cute" is the last deciding factor in running shoes...

If you can't/won't do a running store, go to www.shoedog.com and do the brief quiz to have some better guesses.
