I made a soup with fresh vegis and black beans. I counted my calories and stayed within my calorie range. I did have several servings of soup homemade. There were Lots of beans in it.
But the next day I was up 3 pounds!! what on earth? It took me 5 days to get that off.
Do beans bloat you up or what?

How much sodium did you put in it? Were the beans canned? Usually a lot of salt in those, and you may be sodium sensitive. Or, you are full of gas bloat from the beans, but I don't think that would make you up 3 lbs.

Were they canned beans? There can be a lot of sodium in canned foods/beans so I always try to buy low sodium beans and rinse them before I add them to anything. You should just drink lost of water and the weight will fall right off. It's not a true gain. (or shouldn't be)

Beans... you never heard the riddle as a kid?

Beans beans... the more you eat the more you toot, the more you toot the better you feel so eat your beans at every meal...???

I say that because they bloat you yes, they're fibre. They're great for you but you should only eat about a 1-2cups max a day (depending on your size, I eat max 1.5 cups of carbs).

Were the beans canned in salted water? If so then the salt most likely caused water retention.

I would suspect water retention, not weird beans. How much salt was in the soup? Normal monthly hormonal fluctuations, changes in activity levels, and many other things can contribute to water retention.

They were canned black beans I think 110 calories a cup. And I did rinse them off well.
I used a strainer and ran water over it. I did not realize they have lots of sodium in them.
I added 2 teaspoons of salt to the pan. And yes I have heard of the old saying about beans.
I did not get gasses as I thought I would...but darn they were good.
You are right that it was not true weight then, and it must of been water/sodium retention.

I did get right back to it the next day drinking 3 33oz bottles of water daily.
Yes I agree I think I maybe sodium sensitive.

Good idea next time to get low sodium beans. And have them only in moderation.

benefits of being older no normal monthly hormonal fluctuations

I don't blame the beans either. I still haven't figured out why some weeks I lose nothing and then lose four pounds in one week. My calorie intake is not that different from week to week. I just don't pay that much attention to the short term fluctuations. The long term trend tells the story.

and what sort of scientific reasoning is that?

I just want to say the soup as you described it sounds good. I think I notice whenever I make soup for whatever reason, cold or whatnot, and I eat multiple servings because I'm just such a damned good cook, I too have an upsurge in my scale. I do like lots of salt though, so that's probably it.
