How Important are Macros?

Ive been trying really hard to fulfill my macro requirements lately and havent been very successful. Im either above in my fats, below in my carbs, etc. I just cant seem to fulfill the 40/40/20 that I have set for myself. Any advice? Are macros really that important or should I focus on calories more? Like today in my diary Im under my calorie count because I dont want to throw my macros off even more than they already are.

Help please!

For weight loss, calories are what matters. Macros are important for body composition and achieving certain fitness goals, but pretty much irrelevant to actual weight loss unless you have certain medical conditions.

Where did you come up with 40/40/20? It's difficult because MFP gives you %, but I really try to focus more on getting my .9 - 1 gram of protein per Lb of LBM and about 30% of my diet in fats...rest carbs. When I'm cutting that usually is right around 40c/30p/30f, but when I'm maintaining it's closer to 50c/20p/30f or thereabouts. I rarely hit the nail on the head.

I got the 40/40/20 from Beachbodys website. I believe they called it the energy booster formula. I dont really know much about macros so Im just trying to figure out what I should be doing. But if they arent really important when it comes to weight loss, I guess Ill just focus on my calories instead. Thanks!

Everyone will respond differently to different macros, you need to find what works for you and how you feel. They're important when it comes to body composition. It is going to depend on your goals....
