Why do some people choose to answer a question to a thread thru private message

I notice some users will send a private message answering a question to my threads instead in the forums.why is that? just out if curiousity

To make sure you see the answer they give
To create a "connection" that may make you trust them more
Because they think you're hot and want a reason to enter your box

Sometimes I send one when there is tons of conflicting information in the thread. Usually I point them in the direction to get some real help.

Can happen when a thread has gotten off track and they think you might miss theirs in the crush, they may have special knowledge, it could be a contentious issue that they don't want to get into a spat over or they could also be trying to push a contentious agenda, selling something etc.

Or it's a sensitive subject, and have something they are willing to send to you privately - a private anecdote that might make you feel better - but they don't want to put that out there for everyone.

I get those when they want to say something off color or that would get them a strike. Sometimes people just don't like public posts.
