Everything has so many calories
I have gotten better at logging food this past week and everything just adds up way to fast.
I feel like I have to restrict what I eat so that I can keep within my goal.
I feel bad just eating a banana because it is nearly 100 calories on its own!
How do you guys cope with snacks? I feel like I have to avoid them to be able to eat anything else during the day.

How many calories are you eating a day? I avoid bananas because I'd rather have 100 calories worth of meat or something.
I eat like 6 times a day and eat 1640 calories. Not that hard. Just have to find some low cal things you like.
What are your favorite snacks currently?0 -
Move around a lot, eat more. Move around fast, eat a lot more.0

That's the unfortunate necessity of losing weight!
That said, I got a lot smarter about *what* I ate when I was losing (I'm maintaining now). It is amazing the huge plate of food you can have for 400 calories when it's primarily protein and vegetables.
I kind of viewed my calorie goal for the day as my checking account. Sometimes it was worth spending a lot of my budget on cake, but normally it wasn't. I could make my "money" go a lot further if I made different choices, but saved a little splurge cash for chocolate at the end of the day.

Your diary says you had 400 calories yesterday and 900 today. You should eat more than that. 1200 is already very low and you definitely shouldn't go under it. You can probably eat more than that and still lose.
And like SonicDeathMonkey says, exercise to get more calories and you can eat more still.0 -
1200 calories is low. I can't stick to that. You may want to recalculate. Here are some links if you haven't read through them.

I have been really bad at logging dinner recently so my totals are actually a little higher. I should really log my dinners but I feel silly doing it when we have people with us for dinner.
I have upped my calories to 1400 but I always feel really bad once I get to under 1000 a day remaining. I like to have a big balance in my check account.....0 -

Do it before or after? And you already have a "big balance" as the 1400 is including a deficit. Don't cheat yourself, you'll just be hangry.

No, it's not like a savings account. You want to be close to the number. Especially since you have it set low
I will edit this
Yes, you will lose weight faster at a higher deficit. I just wouldn't want to go below 12000 -

Yeah, you definitely need to stop thinking like that. That number is fulfilling your basic needs. Think of it as paying your bills, not emptying your checking account. You wouldn't short your electric bill, right?0 -
You're not eating enough.0

Well, this isn't like your checking account, at least not in that way. Having a bigger deficit isn't necessarily better. Think of it more like a game in which you want to get as close to 0 calories remaining as possible without going over.
It is a little like your checking account in the sense that you can think of budgeting your calories. For example, you pay your bills first right? (Hopefully you do lol) So first you want to allot the calories for your meals. Those are your "bills." Think of your snacks like discretionary spending-- new shoes or whatever. I generally aim for 500 calories for breakfast, 300 for lunch, and 600 for dinner, just as an example. So that gives me 1400 calories. Then, with a calorie goal of 1700 (that's with exercise) I still have 300 left for snacks.0 -
And exercise is like a part time job - supplemental income. You can use that for Cheez-Its and blow.0

Man, I hate paying my bills ...0 -
Maybe eat to your actual calorie goals...that would be a good place to start. Calories aren't the devil...they are just a unit of energy...your body requires energy...you don't have to starve your body to lose weight.0

Cheez-its are snack crackers and blow is a slang term for cocaine. It's a joke. I think.0 -

You have not lived, my friend.0 -
I think I might have to do a budget and plan out my meals in advance and log before I eat. Maybe then I won't be scared of going over my calories.
Yea you guys are right, the mindset of a check account isn't working for me.0 -

Oooh I see. Well I don't have access to either0 -
I'm going to actually give you a lower calorie snack/meal suggestions. Fried egg on lightly buttered toast is around 200 calories. Also, try to eat a (lower calorie) vegetable with every meal. One hundred grams of raw spinach is less than 25 calories. One hundred grams of broccoli florets is around 35 calories. One hundred grams of zucchini squash is 20 calories.
And with all the calories you save by filling yourself up with nutritious vegetables, you can have some ice cream!0 -
Hey there, this is what works for me. I set my goal to maintain and like to see the left over numbers. Decide what you would like your deficit to be(follow the links above to find a reasonable number) then let that number by your "leftover" at the end of the day. It lets you see what you actually have left over instead of the deficit being invisible and you feeling like you're getting close to "broke" I'm not tracking my food atm so my diary's bad to look at, but basically if I burn 2500 calories and want to lose 1 pound a week I eat 2000 which leaves me 500 in the green.0
