So i got a gym membership thru work to anytime fitness I am really nervous on going cause I have never been to a gym. So does any one have any pointers about going to the gym? Like what to eat before hand or what to bring or what to drink after a work out ? also what are your favorite machines?

Ask for a tour of the gym on your first visit so you know where everything is. Make sure you have a plan before going into the gym of what your work out that day is going to be. Jury is out about eating or not before the gym- I don't eat because I get an upset stomach while working out. Bring water to drink while you are there. The only machines I really use are the leg curl and leg extension- they rest is pretty much free weights.

    1) watch youtube videos to learn proper form for the exercises you're going to do.

    2) have a plan. Know what you're going to do so you don't end up wandering around looking lost or feeling self conscious

    3) What I personally take onto the gym floor: hand towel, cell phone, water bottle, and chalk for free weights.

    4) eating is really a person by person thing. Some people like it, others don't. It may take some trial and error to figure out what you prefer. Many people don't like it if they're doing cardio. Personally, I like a small, carby snack before I deadlift or bench press but not if I'm at the gym before my normal eating time.

I do pretty much only free weights and lat pulls and a bit on the rowing machine.

I don't eat immediately beforehand either, makes me nauseous. Go in with a plan (once you learn the layout). As for machines, I tend to use the circuit for lifting, with free weight periods thrown in. For cardio (if a cardio only day) I spend a little time on them all - 10-15 mins each on bike, step machine, elliptical, and treadmill.
