I was, and still am an agoraphobe. I used to stay in the house. One day, I felt the urge to get out, and went to a local small supermarket, a co-op as it's called here in England. That was the beginning of me going out. I still can't walk to places by myself, I go to town by myself, driven there and back, but I can walk around town due to there being a lot of people around. I volunteer at a charity shop. I walk my dogs, which I'm not very confident about, as usually the street is deserted. I dream of being able to walk to my local corner shop.

The problem with me, is being in an open place ie outside, is very scary for me, if I'm on my own, the only human around, because I know I'm capable of having a panic attack, had them in the past. I'm on medication and don't get them now in the day like I used to, however I have come very close. I also recently had one in my sleep, about a month ago, which can't be helped.

I have recently made friends, joined a choir. I know more people now. I'm an introvert. I go to the pub once sometimes twice a week with people from choir. I am quite scared to make phone calls, but applied for a job via phone the other week. I did not hear back, as many people applied. I also applied for another job, giving them my cv, but we had to find out if I got it, they had no intention of telling me.

Tonight, my parents told me I haven't improved with my agoraphobia, and it has really upset me. I just wanted to get this off my chest and tell someone. I'm really sick of living in such a negative environment. I can't move out by myself, as I don't like to be alone, as you know. I am fine at home, but if I were to live on my own, that would be a different story. I really hate my parents. They have upset me a lot recently.

It sounds like you've made some great strides recently. Have you considered trying to find a roommate? Then you could move away from living with your parents, and you wouldn't have to live alone.

wow ..as someone who has suffered with agoraphobia I just want you to know YOU ARE DOING SO AMAZING! You really really are! People do not understand what it is like to suffer from this and therefore they see "small" little steps as "silly or not progress"

but in reality you are making massive progress and they should be nothing but proud of you

I agree with the other post maybe look into finding a roommate you feel comfortable with so you can get away from unsupportive people
