I like to enjoy a beer (kokanee) or two in the evenings to wind down, but i really dont want it to interfere with my weight loss (i know i know i should quit drinking alcohol).

Any tips on what i can drink that is low calories. I cant drink wine because it flares up my rosacea, and I am allergic to vodka.

i switched to light beers. i got used to the subtle difference in taste. drinking a couple of 65-70 calorie beers is easily incorporated to my food intake goal.

and why on earth would you want to quit drinking alcohol?

If it fits into your daily calories, it won't interfere with your weight loss.

(i know i know i should quit drinking alcohol).

if your alcohol intake is out of your control and it's having an impact on your life, then i agree. if not, you can continue to enjoy in moderation.

i believe it was johnnie cochran who said "if you make it fit, you dont hafta quit."

I feel like I've answered this a million times, but all spirits-- vodka, whiskey, rum, gin... are pretty much the same calories at around 70 calories/ounce. I don't know why vodka has a reputation as being the "diet" alcohol.

it gets them drunk. IDK i hate clear liquor.. Yea for the dark side.

  • Anything light, really. If you're drinking Kokanee, I hope you're from BC - because Kokanee is best from the Okanagan, and that means you're awesome!!

Molson 67 is the most accessible at any beer store with 67 calories a bottle.

    If you like craft beers:
Cracked Canoe is a delicious lager that's low in fat. I believe it's about 90 calories a bottle and is super smooth!

There are also some gluten free beers if that interests you. Mongozo Pilsner is my favourite. Actually probably my favourite beer!

I work at a bar with 130+ beers. If you need any particular diet friendly beers, shoot me a message! :)
  • I just saw that you're from Calgary.. close enough ;)

As long as it fits your calories I wouldn't worry about it, but here's a site to see what sorts of alcohols have how many calories (with various rankings).

I've been wondering if the higher the alcohol content (of beer), the high the calories?

didnt usually count calories, but on low carb I can get away with any clear spirit as NO carbs (gin, bacardi, tequila, vodka etc) Vod is @100cal per shot so do take it easy more now I count cals too. Apparently though, any unused cals from alcohol will become fat.. and alcohol cals will be used before food cals because they're already processed, so even though within your allowance, they can still give you that beer belly ;(

Yes. For two reasons. 1) Alcohol has calories. More alcohol, more calories and 2) most high alcohol beer naturally has more residual sugars leftover from fermentation so there is also more sugar in the finished product, which obviously has calories.
