My girlfriend has asked me to get her some yoga. I was looking for the best kind and I'm not quite sure what to look for. is there anyone who might be able to help me out? She wants it kinda as a weight loss help and stress reliving. If anyone could add any comments please let me know.

Find a local studio, and get her a new student pass. Can often get a weekly or monthly deal. Then she can check out the different kinds and see what she likes.

Check out Groupon, they have frequent offers for discounts to yoga studios for new people. Make sure it's not a bikram-only studio - that's the hot yoga and she might like it but she might not and it'll be better if she has some choices. Also just check the class schedule, see that they have some beginner, or some de-stress classes at times she'll be able to go. I would say those are the most important things; that it has a variety of classes at times she can make.

Do a web search of your area. Find somewhere that is fairly convenient and has a variety of classes.

Get her to try some different types on youtube. Just do a quick search and you'll find a tonne of videos! That way she'll know what type of yoga she likes and can find out in the comfort of her own home.

does she want to travel to a class or something to do in home? there are a lot of different styles of yoga..hatha, vinyasa, ashtanga, bikram (hot yoga) to name a few. I would recommend Hatha if she is just beginning. It is slower paced and focuses on learning poses (correct form which is very important), breathing, and relaxation. If she wants something a little more strenuous, Vinyasa. If she is familiar with yoga, can do poses at a faster pace, and is already fairly fit, Ashtanga.

I did yoga for my first time last Friday...a g/f talked me into it. it was the hot yoga...pretty intense or first time, but I lived through it. Helped that the teacher was very helpful and gave me guidance and alternative's to poses I just could not do. I like the hot yoga because, well its hot, you sweat a lot and I am always freezing. But it is a personal choice.

Does she want live classes or yoga DVDs?
